Right Wing Rib Matching

Today was fun because I could, for the first time, get a nice sense of the scale of the wings. On the right wing, I clecoed the ribs in place, and just had to match drill a few #12 holes for where some bolts get attached. The #30 (and #40) holes didn’t not have to be drilled, as they are already final sized, and verified the holes were perfectly aligned and can accommodate a rivet.

The tricky part is the rib part numbering. The ribs parts are either left or right, but that does not apply to which wing they get attached. Half of the “left” parts go on the right wing and vice versa. The difference between the parts is only the presence of a pilot hole for wiring, but some ribs have the flanges facing inboard and the other half have them facing outboard, so that results in a mix of left-and-right *parts* on each wing spar.

I’ve also been enjoying setting up my computer properly at the hangar. Hopefully this will allow me some “work from hangar” (WFH) sessions in the afternoon, followed by evening airplane work, and all the while avoiding the nasty evening commute (it’s almost like before-times again).

  1. Nice to see the wings start to come together. Good to know right & left hand ribs dont refer to left or rt wings, guess that could trip up someone that didn ‘t study site plans. Good progress!
