Tailcone Bulkheads

This entry includes 45 minutes of work from Tuesday (12/8).

Work continues on the tailcode, primarily the time-consuming task of deburring the edges (there are some pretty rough edges on the bulkhead inner edges). Then some cutting of angle aluminum and J-stiffeners, and match drilling.

Also some holes to be drilled to 5/8″ with a Unibit.

An angle aluminum piece also needed to be cut into a slightly flared shape to attach to the F-1010 bulkhead. A small oops here, I did not have the angle aluminum clamped very well, and it migrated slightly with drilling the first hole. After repositioning, there was ample room to drill two new holes staggering the bad hole. It might be able to accommodate an oops rivet, but it was pretty oblong, so I wanted to have a better solution.

The lesson learned was to use the good clamps. I have a collection of vise-grip clamps that work great, and I should have been using those from the beginning. They were in the tranche of second-hand tools that I had purchased, so they were not initially at top-of-mind. Now they will be 🙂
