Continued work on the front spar of the horizontal stabilizer. A lot of time spent match drilling #30 spar web and #40 spar flange holes into the spar end caps. And deburring.
Then it was time to match drill the previously fabricated front spar attachment brackets. First they had to be attached to the doubler/spar with a single cleco each (since only one hole at this time), and the bottoms calmed to a straight piece of angle to keep them aligned. Then the 8 remaining holes were match drilled (and the original 1/8″ hole final sized to #30).
I had naturally put the bracket marked “L” (left) on the left side, and “R” (right) on the right side. WRONG. A quick look at the plans to double check orientation made me quickly realize that they needed to be reversed. This is simply because they are being attached to the *front* side of the front spar and thus I am looking face-on at the spar, so the “my right, your left” rule applies here!
Then there were a bunch of holes machine countersunk on the doubler, and a few more on the spar flange.
Then it was time to debur and prep and prime the attachment brackets and spar end caps.
