HS Rear Spar

In the last post, I mentioned that all the holes for the horizontal stabilizer spars and doublers were already final sized. Almost. The doubler for the rear spar is a suspected RV-9 part, part number HS-906, thus was not final sized (and had no orange indicator to indicate such, since it’s not an RV-10 part per se). So I quickly clecoed that part to the rear spar and match drilled, paying close attention to the holes that are not to be drilled. Also two holes had to be machine countersunk. Then the drilled holes were deburred.

Then I slightly abraded both spars with grey Scotch Brite, cleaned them thoroughly with acetone, and then shot them with primer.

Then it was time for final assembly of the rear spar. This meant riveting the doubler to the spar, and the elevator attach brackets to the spar. Three or so rivets required drilling out and resetting. These were rivets that set a little crooked or the head was protruding a bit.
