Taking Another Stab at It

Now that I have my backordered parts, namely the rudder brackets, I can take another stab at the Vertical Stabilizer.

So today was spent final drilling the rear spar, along with the brackets. I had left all the #30 holes for final drilling. Then I final drilled with a #19 bit the holes required for the newly designed bottom rudder bracket. This bracket now accepts #8 screws versus rivets of the previous design (see Service Bulletin below). Countersinking of these holes was required as well. Then deburring all sides of the final drilled holes.

Then I started setting a few rivets on this piece, namely the top rudder bracket and the middle rudder bracket.

Since my tail kit was shipped after 9/30/2020, my plans and parts include the modified bottom rudder bracket, but here’s the Service Bulletin for reference:
