A lot of hours spent today on stuff that’s not super visible.
Oh, turns out I was able to fit rivets in the one rivet row that I thought were not final sized holes, but apparently they are despite the label. To be sure, I used a #40 reamer against the rib holes, but it didn’t do anything, so they were fine. Also, the part did have a date of 090820 which seems pretty new for a part with an “orange stripe” (not final sized) so I’m assuming the part was possibly marked in error.
A lot of time was spent dimpling and countersinking the skin and related parts. Much care had to be to make sure the right holes were dimpled vs. countersunk vs. not dimpled at all. On the rear spar, the flange holes had to be either countersunk, if it had the spar cap backing, or dimpled, or left alone depending on the position.
A light scuff and priming of the internal parts was done too, after cleaning with acetone. Warming with the heat gun afterwards works wonders, as the parts can be quickly flipped for priming the other side, and then easily handled so they could be put away for another day’s work.
