Today’s work involved assembling the rudder skeleton with clecos. The new Van’s RV-10 kits have, for the most part, “final sized holes.” This means that a major step of assembly, drilling matched holes to final size, and deburring can be eliminated. With transitional kits like mine, some parts have final sized holes, but some parts may not. The ones that do not are supposed to be marked with an orange highlighter stripe on the part # tag. I have found, however, that even if a part has final sized holes, this normally applies to the size #40 holes. Often, the size #30 holes still do not let the shaft of a #30 bit pass through. Fortunately, all the skins appear to be final size holed.
Anyway, back to the rudder… there was a little bit of final size hole drilling on the skeleton, and deburring. I also clecoed the rudder skins onto the skeleton for fit and alignment, and the AD3 rivets fit in perfectly.
