Fundamentals

If ordering the Empennage Kit is the first official step in becoming a builder, I would say my first practical step in becoming a builder was to take a Fundamentals Sheet Metal class. I chose Synergy Air in Eugene, Oregon (they have a presence in Georgia, too). They were great. They offer a single-day packed Fundamentals class where you learn the basics and build the Airfoil Practice Kit. A lot of valuable experience and an enjoyable class. Synergy also offers an Empennage Build class where they help you build your empennage kit. In addition to the classes, Synergy offers all sorts of builder assist services.

One major highlight of this visit to Synergy, however, was to get a glimpse of a number of RVs in various stages of construction, including some up-close looks of newly-painted airplanes with outstanding paint jobs, and some very high quality interiors.
